Ravi Morisetty: Successful American Entrepreneurs
What motivates you?
There are a lot of things that keep me motivated on a regular basis with my family being the biggest thing. I keep looking forward to taking days off so that I can spend time with them. I also enjoy seeing my pharmacy excel with corporate metrics that keep me working harder and harder.
How do you define success?
Success evades a simple definition. It depends on how you evaluate your success as you move ahead in your career. Some people measure success in monetary terms while some measure success in the terms of fame. At the same time, there are many who measure success in terms of satisfaction.
It is really important to determine how you define success because that’s what will guide your choices about current and future opportunities. Just don’t let anyone else set the definition of success for you.
Do you work locally or nationally?
Locally, only. I do have plans to expanding my business in the coming time but it might take some time.
How many hours a day do you work on average?
Currently, I don’t work for more than 8 hours a day. But in the beginning, I used to work for 12-15 hours with the aim of collecting more wealth but it made me restless and I didn’t even get to spend time with my family. That’s when I decided to dedicate a particular amount of time to my work.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
At my former employer, there was a woman who used to come every other day to take different medicines. I asked her what the reason of her collecting different medicines was. She told me that she was a regular visitor of an old age home and kept taking medicines for people there. That’s when I decided to pay for half of the medicines from my pocket to help her and become a part of a good deed.
How do you advertise your business?
Frankly, I am not very good at advertising and all and that’s why I have hired a person to do the same for me. He lets me know what my business needs to excel and I provide him with all the information he needs to do that.
If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
It would have been something related to medicine for sure because I have been fascinated with the medical profession since childhood. I love the way a medical professional helps people get better. This was the same reason why I chose to become a pharmacist.
Who has been your greatest inspiration?
I have always been a fan of Alexander Flemming. I have read stories about him as a child and how he discovered penicillin. He has surely contributed a lot to the pharmacy industry that inspires me to do something big.
What is the part of your life experience you would alter if you had the chance to?
If I think about changing something in my past life, I would have not been where I am today. There are regrets, there are mistakes in the past, but I have learned something from them. Though the lessons were harsh, I have become stronger. And that’s completely okay for me because everything happens for a reason. So, altering a life experience has ruled out for me and I happily accept who I am today.
What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
The top three skills for me would be adaptability, persistence, and work ethic.
